AIMS
All students will be given the chance to develop
the practical skills they gained in S1/S2 on guitar,
bass guitar, keyboard, drum kit and vocal. 
Listening /composing / arranging and improvising
skills will also be developed.

If students are learning an instrument privately or
in school with one of our instructors, this could be
included in the solo performing.


CONTENT


Standard Grade Music has four parts, most of which may be taught at the same time -

Solo performing - this consists of a 4 - 10 minute performance.
Group music making - on another type of instrument students will be able to perform in a group.
Composing / arranging / improvising - a chance  for students to do their own thing!
Listening - following on from S.2.

There are many opportunities for students to perform in concerts, which can contribute considerably to their assessment performances.



ASSESSMENT
Visiting examiner assesses the Solo instrument.
2nd instrument + Inventing are graded by Music Department
Listening Tape - final written examination at end of S4.

Each element is worth 1/4 of total grade.


Intermediate 2

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  Standard Grade 3 or 4
                                                 OR
                                                  Successful interview

ELEMENTS

Performing/Inventing/Listening - 80 hour unit - comprising:

Performing 
Performance solo and/or in group at Grade III standard (minimum)

Inventing  An invention folio of at least 2 minutes displaying compositional techniques at Intermediate 2 Standard.

Listening  Listening examination similar in structure to Credit Standard Grade. This is made up of observation questions.

PLUS

The candidate must also study one 40 hour unit in one of the following:

Sound Engineering Introducing a variety of recording techniques in classroom situations and the studio

Inventing Extension  An invention folio of 3-10 minutes displaying a greater depth and breadth than in the mandatory unit.

Performing Extension  Performance solo and/or in group on a second instrument at Grade III standard (minimum)

Midi Sequence  Unit comprising midi sequence skills using NOTATOR LOGIC. Assessment is based on a submission of composed midi file of at least 4 parts and 2 minutes in length and also a written assessment and practical test on techniques.

Higher

Listening  Listening examination similar in structure to Credit Standard Grade but substantially advanced. This is made up of listening observation questions.

PLUS

The candidate must also study one 40 hour unit in one of the following:

Sound Engineering  Introducing a variety of recording techniques in classroom situations and the studio

Inventing Extension  An invention folio of 5 - 12 minutes displaying a greater depth and breadth than in the mandatory unit.

Performing Extension Performance solo and/or in group on a second instrument at Grade V standard (minimum)

Midi Sequence  Unit comprising midi sequence skills using NOTATOR LOGIC.  Assessment is based on a submission of composed  midi file and also a written assessment and practical test on techniques.
