Curriculum for Excellence Update Meeting

Please click here to open a PDF copy of the PowerPoint used at the Information Evening for Parents/Carers of S1/2 pupils on 27th Feb. At that evening parents/carers were encouraged to complete our online survey to help gather more information about their views on our approach to implementing CfE within Armadale Academy. W e would like as many parents / carers as possible to respond to ensure that their views are taken into account as we plan the future direction of CfE and our support of your child within Armadale Academy.

Sky Sports

Armadale Academy was delighted to welcome Commonwealth Gold medal winner Steve Frew to the school recently to start this year's Sky Sports Living for Sport project. This project aims to use sport to encourage pupils to perform in school while giving them the opportunity to organise and run a project and gain skills that will help them both in and out of school.

Steve impressed the group of S4 pupils selected for the project and a very lucky S1 gymnastics class with a world class demonstration of his skills.

OLYMPIC HERO STEVE CRAM VISITS ARMADALE ACADEMY

Armadale Academy welcomed the former World Athletics champion and Olympic middle distance legend Steve Cram to the school on Wednesday. On a visit organised through the Livingston office of the leading international IT services company Atos Origin, he got a glimpse our sporting achievements and excellent facilities.

Steve, until the weather intervened, saw our athletes training then led a motivational discussion with students on the topic of preparation, dedication and commitment as well as the importance of building on strengths to help achieve success.

Steve said: “Thanks to the staff and students at Armadale Academy – it’s fantastic to see a school so committed to sporting achievement and success. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and wish all of the budding young athletes all the best with their training.”

We are grateful to Atos Origin and look forward to working with them in the future.

Armadale Academy - National Giant Heptathlon Champions .

Congratulations to Armadale Academy who represented West Lothian Council at the National Giant Heptathlon final at Grangemouth Stadium.  Every area of Scotland was represented in the competition which included seven separate events. The 16 elite athletes from S2 in Armadale Academy performed as a team but ultimately everyone improved their personal best results in all 7 events. The athletes put in over 30 hours of training including two weeks of intensive training during the Easter holidays covering events including sprinting, hurdling, relays, endurance, jumps and throws.  The commitment, determination and exceptional talent of the young people has to be commended.

Barry Speedie, Principal teacher of PE at Armadale Academy commented, “The whole school are incredibly proud of our athletes’ achievements and it is good to see that the kids have been rewarded for their hard work and commitment.” The school would also like to thank Active Schools, Sports Development, Scottish Athletics, guest expert coaches, National/International Level Athletes and Sports Leaders and the parents for their support.
