In November / December each year parents of P7 pupils will receive a letter and application form from the Pupil Placement Section indicating the catchment area secondary schools for their home address. You have the right, under the Education Act (1981), to choose a different school but, whatever you choose to do, you have to return this form to:

Pupil Placement Section - Education Services,
Lindsay House,
Bathgate
EH 48 1TS

Telephone: 01506 776002

Secondary schools have intake limits and where applications exceed this limit it would be necessary to apply the “Placing in Schools - Guidelines” and refer all applications to the Special Sub-Committee on Pupil / Student Support.

The deadline, this year, for a placing request to an alternative secondary is 31 December 2006 . All applications will be acknowledged within 10 working days. If this course of action is in your mind, we would suggest that you visit Armadale Academy and any other school you may be considering before writing to the Pupil Placement Section. We will be happy to discuss the options with you.

Enrolment will be confirmed as soon as possible before 30 April 2007 by letter from Lindsay House. Where a school is oversubscribed parents will be informed in writing as soon as possible that it is necessary to refer the application to the special sub-committee noted above. Parents will be given information on when this committee will meet and when they will hear the outcome of this meeting.

In the same way admission to Armadale Academy can be achieved from outwith our catchment area but parents must first write to the Pupil Placement Section.

Before the annual Enrolment

In June each year Primary 7 pupils take part in lessons at the Academy over a period of two days.

In 2007 the provisional dates for these meetings are:

Monday 18 June 2007 – Primary 7 pupils at the Academy

Tuesday 19 June 2007 – Primary 7 pupils at the Academy

Monday 18 June 2007 Primary 7 intake Parents’ Evening at the Academy.

Dates will be confirmed by a letter home to each parent nearer the time. In addition to these formal meetings, staff of the Academy visit the primary schools in May and June to liaise with primary teachers.

Transfer to secondary is usually an anxious time for the youngsters and also for parents. Our main aim is to reduce that anxiety.

Enrolment Information
In August, right at the start of the session, we will send out a form for completion by parents of new pupils to ensure that our information is accurate. Everything you tell us is stored in our main computer admin system (called Phoenix ). Under the Data Protection Act 1987, we are required to send you a copy of this information and will do so around October.

Enrolment during the session
New students can be enrolled at any time during the session. Simply contact our school office. Usually we try to start new pupils on a Monday, so it is helpful if the enrolment interview takes place the previous week. This allows us to prepare timetables and enables the pupil to get off to a good start.
