Charity and Fundraising
The Eco Committee of Armadale Academy will be setting up a Garden of Remembrance in the next few weeks. In this area we are going to plant daffodil bulbs which you can sponsor for only £1 in memory of a loved one. The profits from this project will be donated to the Marie Curie Cancer Care foundation and St. Andrew's Hospice. There will be a Book of Remembrance kept in the school with the name of your loved one which will be available for viewing at any time.
If you would like to donate £1 towards these two chosen charities and have a bulb planted and a message written in the book then please complete the tear off slip and return to the Eco Committee who you may contact within the school or through your child.
Thank You
EARTH HOUR
Armadale Academy actively participated in Earth Hour organised by the World Wildlife Foundation. A promotional DVD was shown to all register classes to emphasise the importance of energy conservation and to encourage pupils to participate in the Earth Hour initiative.
A first year Science class organised Armadale Academy’s very own Earth Hour. On Friday the 25 th of March, at 11.00, 1D asked all staff to turn off as many lights and appliances as possible. Pupils split themselves into monitoring teams and all rooms were visited by pupils to check that minimal energy was being used over the course of the hour. 1D also gave staff a memory slip to remind them to switch off their lights for an hour on Saturday the 26 th of March.
The pupils involved took the task very seriously and reminded staff and pupils about how easily we all waste energy. The first year pupils used a very simple idea to convey a very topical and powerful message about energy conservation to the rest of the school.
