The following areas of the curriculum are taught in line with the 5-14 National Programme.
The following levels of attainment are common to all 5-14 curriculum areas :
Level A should
be attainable in the course of P1-P3 by almost all pupils.
Level B should be attainable by some pupils in P3 or even
earlier, but certainly by most in P4.
Level C should be attainable in the course of P4-P6 by
almost all pupils.
Level D should be attainable by some pupils in P5-P6 or
even earlier, but certainly by most in P7.
Level E should be attainable by some pupils in P7-S1, but
certainly by most in S2.
Level F should be attainable in part by some pupils, and
completed by a few pupils, in the course of P7-S2.
Records are kept of each pupil's progress at every stage through the school and reports are issued annually to parents. Relevent information that will be of value to the secondary school is passed to Whitburn Academy before pupils are transferred.
Children With Special Needs
It is not always possible for children
who have special difficulties in learning to be given the help
and attention they require by the class teacher. In some cases
additional assistance by the learning support staff is sufficient
to meet the need, while, in others the pupils are referred to
the Support for Learning services for investigation. Parents of
such children are consulted and kept informed of developments.
School Liaison Group (SLG)
This group has been set up to provide
support for children, parents and school. The group includes representatives
from school staff, educational psychological services, support
for learning services, school medical department, educational
welfare department and social work department.
The meetings are chaired by the Head Teacher and the needs of
individual children are discussed. Parents are asked for their
consent for their child to be discussed at the meeting and are
also invited to attend.
Children can be referred by parents who should first of all discuss
their concerns with the teacher. Any membor of the group may also
refer children.
