S1 and S2
Students learn how computers work and how to use the software installed on them.
S3 and S4 (Standard Grade)
In Standard Grade Computing Studies, you will learn all about computers, how they work and what they are used for. The course is offered at three levels: Credit, General and Foundation and the following broad areas will be studied.
1. Computer Applications
General Purpose Packages (Word Processing, Databases, Spreadsheets and Graphics)
Industrial and Commercial Applications (Robotics and Commercial Data Processing)
2. Computer Systems
System Software
Operating and Filing Systems
Low Level Machine
Hardware
3. Computer Programming
Pupils learn how to set up instructions in High Level Languages, VisualBASIC
Assessment
Assessment is in two parts; internal and external. The final award is split: 30% coursework (done throughout the course) and 70% external examination.
S5 and S6 (Higher)
For students who pass Standard Grade Computing at Credit level or Intermediate 2 Computing, there is the option to do Higher Computing.
S6 (Advanced Higher)
Based on good results at Higher level, the school offers Advanced Higher Computing to students wishing to take the subject further.
