S1 and S2

As the Physics department but shared with Chemistry and Physics.

S3 and S4 (Standard Grade)

The course consists of 15 topics, plus some additional work on calculations.
Students also complete a number of practical assessments, and two investigations which contribute to the final mark.

Students who achieve a general grade can continue the subject by studying Intermediate 2 in 5th year, and progressing to Higher in Sixth year. Those who achieve a Credit grade can progress straight to Higher in Fifth year.

S5 and S6 (Intermediate 2)

Students who pass Standard Grade Biology at General level can take Intermediate 2 Biology.

S5 and S6 (Higher)

For students who pass Standard Grade Biology at Credit level or Intermediate 2 Biology, there is the option to do Higher Biology.

Students may also be able to 'crash' Higher Biology (take the subject at Higher level with no previous qualifications in Biology), but this is based on good grades at another Higher level science.

S6 (Advanced Higher)
