Courses

S1 and S2

In S1 we provide a foundation-type course which provides breadth and balance across the art and design curriculum. Pupils will develop a deeper understanding of fine art skills and develop deeper knowledge of a range of design disciplines. The course in S2 builds upon skills learned in S1. Pupils will study drawing and painting and a range of design disciplines which may include: graphic design, fashion and textiles, jewellery, claywork, shoe and interior design.

S3 and S4

The S3/4 course is currently a two year course which offers pupils the opportunity to develop to their full potential throughout that period. Pupils will be submitted at one of the following levels:

  • Intermediate 1
  • Intermediate 2
  • At each level pupils must complete 2 practical units: a design unit and an expressive unit.
Expressive units may include such topics as: still life, figure, portrait, built environment, natural environment. Design topics may include: jewellery design, textile design, interior design and architecture, product design and graphic design. For pupils at Intermediate 1 level a short essay must be completed and at Intermediate 2 level pupils will sit a written exam. No written work is required for Access 3 level.

Pupils have to complete 2 practical units similar to those required at Intermediate 1 and 2 level but the standard of work required is higher and the work more involved. Also, additional questions must be answered in he written exam.
