Theatre Hire

Linlithgow Academy Theatre offers local community organisations, societies and associations a high quality arts facility, with full disabled access, ideally suited to dance, drama or theatre, film, music, opera or traditional Scottish art forms.

The main auditorium is a 350-seat theatre equipped with quality sound/light facilities and additional flexible space for large-scale business meetings, conferences, shows and festivals. Extra services such as equipment hire, reception, catering, cleaning and janitorial services are available on request.

From children’s theatre to opera, classic black and white films to live jazz the Linlithgow Academy Theatre has a wide ranging programme of amateur and professional productions which run throughout the year and offers events and performances suitable for everyone whatever their age.

Linlithgow Academy has extensive car parking facilities with easy access to the M8 and M9 motorways. The railway station in this historic burgh is well served by trains as on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow line.

We also accept private bookings from individual members of the public for special celebrations such as weddings and anniversaries as well as other events. Attached is a sample menu (and another).

All Weather Pitch and Pavilion Hire

The newly completed 91.44 m x 55 m all weather pitch, with run off facilities, at Linlithgow Academy offers excellent sports facilities to the local community and nearby sports associations and clubs especially for hockey, football, rugby and tennis.

With state-of-the art synthetic surfacing, full flood lighting and modern changing facilities this new sports facility has the potential to become a premium sports development centre for nurturing home grown talent, training county squads and national players as well as providing an autonomous home base for local groups.

Serving the immediate population of Linlithgow as well as further afield this sports facility aims to encourage youngsters to play sport from foundation level upwards thus creating teenage pathways into adult sporting activity as well as strengthening school community links and sustaining local involvement in sporting associations.

Available for let as a full or half pitch advance block bookings by local sports clubs and associations are welcome. The pitch may also be booked for casual use.

Service Standards for Academy Theatre/Pitch

We will:

  • provide a booking service by telephone, fax, post or in person 9 am – 4 pm weekdays except Public Holidays
  • acknowledge and register applications for hire within 7 working days
  • ensure that the facilities are clean, laid out as requested and equipped as agreed in advance prior to your arrival
  • give information and advice on estimated costs and suitability of accommodation for particular activities and events
  • operate a booking system as agreed with “core” service users

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are commercial bookings charged at a higher rate?

A. Yes. Commercial bookings are charged at a higher rate than registered community organisations. For full details see the latest lettings charge sheet

Q. How do I pay for my booking?

A. An invoice for the total amount will be sent to whoever made, or whichever organisation made, the booking after the event by West Lothian Council.

Q. How do I gain access to the facilities?

A. The janitor has access to the booking diary and will open and close the premises for you.

Q. Can I make a provisional booking?

A. A provisional booking can be made over the telephone but must be confirmed in writing using the relevant application form and returned to the School Office as soon as possible thereafter and at least two weeks prior to the required date

Q. Will I receive a booking confirmation?

A. Yes you will receive a booking confirmation/permit from Linlithgow Academy with invoice to follow shortly after.

Q. Do I need a license to sell alcohol?

A. Yes. If a publican is running the bar then they should have the appropriate license. If you run the bar privately then you will need to obtain an occasional licence from the Licensing Board, they can be contacted on 01506 777227.

Q. Will I need to book preparation and clear up time?

It is always best to include at least half an hour each side of the booking times

Q. How do I arrange seating for a social event?

A. You can enclose a seating plan with your application for use form and the janitor will put the seating out for you in advance of your booking

Q. Is there a cancellation charge?

A. See letting regulations sheet or telephone the Main school office on 01506 843211.

Q. How do I change or cancel my booking?

A. If the school needs to cancel your booking for any reason we will endeavour to provide, where possible, at least 14 days notice in writing.

If you need to cancel or amend your booking please advise us in writing as far as possible in advance giving at least 48 hours notice.

Q. Are there any additional charges?

A. You may need to pay Performing Right royalties for music or you may wish to arrange food for your guests. Sample menus can be provided on request.

Q. How can I find out about the availability of the theatre and/or pavilion?

A. Perhaps best to phone first as often its first-come-first served and certain dates do get booked up quickly. In the longer term we would hope to move to an online booking facility.
