Robert Owen's House

 

Robert Owen’s house was occupied by Owen and his wife, Caroline Dale, after their marriage in 1799 and prior to Owen becoming the managing partner on January 1st. 1800.

It continued to be the Owen family home until Robert Owen left the village in 1825 bound for America to set up his Utopian dream which he called New Harmony.

VISIT Robert Owen's house in the village of New Lanark. Describe in detail one of the public rooms. Include in your description -

  • what it was used for

Go down to the kitchens. Describe these and list some of the foods that would have been prepared in them. Try to identify as many of the kitchen utensils as you can and sketch or draw some of them.
